ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (Feb. 7, 2024) – The Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) Community Connections Performance and Lecture Series will host its Black History Month program Thursday, Feb. 8., featuring certified sports agent Gary ‘Mo’ Moore.

Moore’s lecture, “Sports Entrepreneurship: From the Little League to the Pros” is at 7 p.m. in the Ridley Student Center, Room 206. It is free and open to the public, but registration is required on the event website.

In August 2010, Moore was certified as an agent through the National Basketball Players Association. He is president and founder of Moore Management and Entertainment, LLC and represents professional basketball players, authors, actors, and actresses. He has served as a mentor to countless stand-out athletes and executive producer and contributor to the documentary, “Iverson” about NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson. Additionally, Moore is a regular contributor to the Peninsula Community Foundation Scholarship Endowment Programs, for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Providing the opportunity for students and the community to interact with guest lecturers is a key takeaway Community Connections events provide, said Nichole Lewis, ECSU interim associate vice chancellor of Student, Alumni, and Constituent Engagement.

"Students could read about (Moore’s) journey through his book 'Realizing the Answer' but what’s better than being able to have a frank talk with the man himself? Community Connections is about real engagement you could not normally have with real people,” she said.

Community Connections events are sponsored and supported by a combination of ECSU student fees, a private donation from Trustee Phyllis Bosomworth, Microsoft, First Citizens Wealth Management, Duke Energy Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
